Why Do We Call Them Gunmen?

Every few days we hear of stories in the media where gunmen open fire on innocent people, cutting them down in cold blood. They usually go something like this; Gunmen opened fire on a truck convoy delivering building materials to rebuild Iraq, four Iraqi truck drivers were killed.

You know personally I have a problem with this because indeed that headline and first sentence in a World Media article is correct but the words used are all wrong. In using these types of words we in fact lessen the severity of the situation and seem to almost condone it, like it was an accident and accidents happen. Gunmen of course means "men with guns" who ambush the truck drivers who are only doing their job.

Shouldn't we change the use of the word; "gunmen" and replace it with "Murdering Criminals" to better shed the proper light on the situation? Additionally the drivers we not killed, as in people are killed in car and truck accidents, they were "butchered" or "slaughtered" as their innocent lives were wasted by these murdering criminals. Why do we put up with these headlines, which almost condone these attacks, as part of doing business?

Rebuilding Iraq is important to the people their, for their civilizations on-going stability and for continued peace in the Middle East. The World Media is oh so quick to judge the United States as we liberate an entire nation, but will not come to terms of reality when reporting on the "gunmen" who are preventing the Iraqi people from realizing their destiny of self-determination. Consider this in 2006.
